About Jenny Hare - artist, illustrator, writer
I especially love selling my paintings online as I enjoy the personal and direct interaction with my buyers and I also like the way direct selling clears space in my studio and keeps my work flowing.
Painting
Painting for me is all about beauty, the spirit of the animals, and the joy of life and love - and it's especially wonderful when someone else loves my paintings and connects with the magic!
I adore painting and paint and list new paintings every day when possible (see below). I follow my heart and love painting all kinds of scenes and subjects in a variety of ways but most often find myself painting hills, forests, flowers, gardens, the coast and my beloved animals. I don't like to be categorised as my style is eclectic but overall I guess I'm a colourist expressionist impressionist! And people say my paintings are instantly recognisable as ‘very Jenny Hare’ and I’m delighted that they are becoming increasingly collectible.
I've been painting for over 26 years, have a Diploma from Hereford College of Arts and have been tutored by several wonderful and highly respected artists. I've had several solo and joint shows in galleries, including the Mall Galleries in Piccadilly, London. During the last few years buyers from the UK and abroad (including the USA and France) have purchased well over a thousand of my paintings. I live in hope of matching Picasso's astonishing output of around 8000 paintings but have some to go! Good - I just love painting as you've probably gathered!!
And I love the way it provides the opportunity to buy original paintings at truly affordable prices either to keep and enjoy or to give as unique presents and it's brilliant that It bypasses the pomp and hype of the conventional art market. I believe in real paint and truly affordable art for everyone!
I’m also happy to sell paintings from my studio and buyers and collectors are very welcome to visit and have a coffee and maybe, if I've been baking, a slice of cake as they view my paintings and choose one. Just contact me to arrange a day and approximate time.
Illustration
Over the years I've had great fun illustrating Eleanor Nesbitt's popular Mango the Marmalade Cat series of giftbooks, calendars and cards. You can also find my illustrations in my books of poetry - The Curlew's Call and The Moon in a Puddle (which I often list on eBay).
Writing
Journalism - I started writing stories, letters to magazines, etc, as a kid. Later I wrote occasional freelance articles for women's magazines. Then, when in PR, I found copywriting was my favourite part of the job. As my confidence grew, I plagued the editor of the local paper, The Southern Echo until he took me on to write about property and homes. I was in my seventh heaven as I'd been an estate agent earlier and also loved doing up houses, so it was second nature to write about it!
Advice Column and Self-Help Books - I trained as a Samaritan and then in relationship counselling at Southampton University in conjunction with the NHS. For 17 years I was Woman's Weekly's agony aunt and advice columnist, and always found it interesting and fulfilling. My books (see ‘Books’) came naturally out of all these experiences.
Novels - I've also written two novels A Piece of Sky Dancing and, for children who love ponies and horses, Moonlight Escape.
All my books can be found on Amazon.co.uk or if you message me I can supply many of them direct and signed by me if you wish.
These days I'm obsessed with painting. I just love it and paint every day whenever possible.
I get so much pleasure from art and books and if I can give similar enjoyment to others that's wonderful. So I very much hope you'll enjoy my paintings and books.
